Average Head Circumference:

Newborn:  13-14”

0-3 Months: 14-15”

3-6 Months: 14-17”

6-12 Months: 16-19”

1-3 Years: 18-20”

3-10 Years: 19-20.5”

Antler Pattern Located at the bottom of all hat patterns

Materials:

●Yarn: Approximately 60 yards of brown worsted weight (4) yarn for smaller sizes, and approx. 100 yards for larger sizes.  Approx 15 yards of white or cream worsted weight (4) yarn.  (I used Red Heart Soft yarn)

● Knitting Needles: Size 5.0 mm (US 8) Double Pointed Needles [DPNs] or use the magic loop method and Straight Needles

● Yarn or Tapestry Needle

Gauge:

 9 sts and 14 rows = 2 inches in stockinette st  

 ***It is important to check your gauge!***

Abbreviations:

M1 (Make 1):  On a knit row: Insert left needle, front to back, under the strand between st on left needle and st on right needle making a new loop on left needle. Knit this loop through the back.

K2tog: Knit two stitches together

P2tog: Purl two stitches together

**: Repeat the section in between the two stars as specified

Antler Hat Knitting Pattern

Newborn Pattern:

CO 52 sts with brown yarn onto DPNs (or use the magic loop method)

Join in the round and place stitch marker

Round 1: Purl

Rounds 2-25: Knit

Round 26: *K2tog, K11* Repeat around (48 total sts)

Rounds 27 & 28: Knit

Round 29: *K2tog, K6* Repeat around (42 total sts)

Round 30: *K2tog, K5* Repeat around (36 total sts)

Round 31: *K2tog, K4* Repeat around (30 total sts)

Round 32: *K2tog, K3* Repeat around (24 total sts)

Round 33: *K2tog, K2* Repeat around (18 total sts)

          Do not bind off.  Cut approx. 7 inch tail.  Using yarn needle, remove all sts from DPNs or magic loop, as if to purl.   Pull tail through sts to cinch the top of hat.  Using yarn needle, pull tail through to the inside of the hat.  Tie a knot and weave in ends.

CO 5 sts onto straight needles.  Leave a 10-12 inch tail for sewing the ear onto the hat

Antler Pattern:

Make a 4 stitch knitted I-Cord for 1.5 inches (2 inches for 3-6 or 6-12 month size, and 2.5 inches for 1-3 or 3-10 Year size) in length, then follow instructions below (leave a 10-12 inch tail to use for securing antler to hat):

Row 1: Purl (make sure to do this row on the back side of the I-Cord)

Row 2: K3, M1, K1 (5 total sts)

Row 3: P2, Place the other three sts on a stitch holder and continue with 2 remaining sts

Row 4: Knit

Row 5: P2tog

Use yarn or tapestry needle to remove last stitch from needles as if to purl.  Secure and weave in end. 

Return to sts on stitch holder

Row 1: Purl (Be sure to start back onto the purled side of your project)

Row 2: Knit

Row 3: Purl

Row 4: K2tog, K1 (2 total sts)

Row 5: Ptog

          Use yarn or tapestry needle to remove last stitch from needles as if to purl.  Secure and weave in end.  Use your base yarn tail and your yarn needle to attach the antler in between the two ears.  The pointed part of the antler should face out as pictured above.  Follow instructions below for second antler:

Make a 4 stitch knitted I-Cord for 1.5 inches (2 inches for 3-6 or 6-12 month size, and 2.5 inches for 1-3 or 3-10 Year size) in length, then follow instructions below (leave a 10-12 inch tail to use for securing antler to hat):
