Every once in a while, I’ll stumble across a strikingly gorgeous stitch.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I discovered the stitch featured in this week’s new pattern while I was browsing the shelves in Cabela’s!  I was on the hunt for some mittens after we moved back to Colorado from Hawaii last year.  The last thing I expected to find at Cabela’s was super gorgeous knit mittens!  Of course they weren’t hand-made, but I had to have them…..all because of the Smock Stitch!

Ever since then, I’ve had my mittens within sight…..just so I could dream and scheme about ways I could feature that gorgeous stitch within my own work.  When I found a super soft and sweet alpaca yarn to pair it with, I knew I’d be using the two together for my daughter’s very first knit hat…….Thus my Smock Stitch Beanie Knitting Pattern was created.

Smock Stitch is sooo beautiful….but I’ve never seen anything like it done in crochet!  So in my normal stubbornness, I decided that if I couldn’t find a stitch for crochet, I’d just have to create one.  Thus my Smock Stitch Beanie Crochet Pattern was created!
