Average Baby Waist Sizes:

Newborn: 13-14″

0-3 Months: 14-15”

3-6 Months: 14-17”

6-12 Months: 16-19”

1-3 Years: 17-20″

Materials:

 ● Yarn: Approximately 75 yards of aran (4) or bulky (5) weight yarn for smaller sizes and approx. 100 yards for larger sizes (I used Loops and Threads – Charisma)                  

● Knitting Needles: Size 6.0 mm (US 10) and Size 5.0 mm (US 8) Straight Needles

● Yarn or Tapestry Needle

Gauge:

7 sts and 11 rows = 2 inches (5 centimeters) in stockinette stitch   

***It is important to check your gauge!***

Abbreviations:

●M1 (Make 1):  On a knit row: Insert left needle, front to back, under the strand between st on left

needle and st on right needle making a new loop on left needle. Knit this loop through the back.

●K2tog: Knit two stitches together

●**: Repeat the section in between the two stars as specified

Using either the yarn you made the cover with, or a color of your choosing, weave a drawstring into the cover right below the first purled section.  Tie a bow on either the outside or the inside.

1-3 Year Headband Pattern (Size 10 Needles)

Cast on 62 sts

Rows 1 & 2: Purl

Row 3: Knit

Row 4: Purl

Row 5: Knit

Bind off as if to knit

Sew the two ends together.  Weave in all yarn ends.

Smaller Flowers (make 4 total, 3 for diaper cover and 1 for headband)

 Using size 8 knitting needles, cast on 50 sts (leave a 5-7 inch tail)

Row 1: Purl

Row 2: Knit first stitch and pass it back to left needle.  Slip next 9 sts over first stitch and off of left needle in between the two needles, (K1, yarn over, K1) in same first Knit st.  Repeat 4 more times. (15 total sts)

Row 3: Knit

Cut yarn leaving a 5-7 inch tail.

Using yarn or tapestry needle, take stitches off of knitting needle as if to purl.  Pull tail through all stitches.  Use needle to weave the ends of the flower together.  Leave tails on flower to use for securing to the diaper cover.

Larger flower (make 1 for headband)

Using size 10 knitting needles, cast on 50 sts (leave a 5-7 inch tail)

Row 1: Purl

Row 2: Knit first stitch and pass it back to left needle.  Slip next 9 sts over first stitch and off of left needle in between the two needles, (K1, yarn over, K1) in same first Knit st.  Repeat 4 more times. (15 total sts)

Row 3: Knit

Cut yarn leaving a 5-7 inch tail.

Using yarn or tapestry needle, take stitches off of knitting needle as if to purl.  Pull tail through all stitches.  Use needle to weave the ends of the flower together.  Leave tails on flower to use for securing to the diaper cover.

Leaves (make 4 total, 3 for diaper cover and 1 for headband)

Using size 8 knitting needles, cast on 2 (leave a 5-7 inch tail)

Row 1: Purl

Row 2: K1, Make 1 (M1), K1 (3 total sts)

Row 3: Purl

Row 4: K1, M1, K1, M1, K1 (5 total sts)

Row 5: Purl

Row 6: Knit

Row 7: Purl

Row 8: Knit

Row 9: Purl

Row 11: P2Tog, P1, P2Tog (3 total sts)

Cut yarn leaving a 5-7 inch tail.

Using yarn needle, pull tail of yarn through last three sts on needle.  Secure.  Use yarn tails to secure leaves to diaper cover and headband.

Secure all flowers and leaves to diaper cover and headband using yarn tails.  Secure headband flowers over the seam.  Enjoy!
