Embellish It!
Knit and crochet items are gorgeous in and of themselves….but add the perfect embellishment, and suddenly a project can go from simply cute to one-of-a-kind uniquely beautiful. The only problem? It’s not always easy to come up with ideas for the perfect finishing touch for a hat….or to find the embellishment that will add that final flair.
With our new little one on the way, and because we aren’t finding out the gender, I’ve been thinking about embellishments a lot lately. Adding a fabric flower, a stunning button, or a bit of lace and pearls can turn a unisex hat into the perfect, feminine, accessory.
Wonder where I’ve been shopping?
I’ve found a few really awesome places to buy embellishments for hand-made items over the years, and I thought it might be fun to share them with you!
Scrapbook.com was a total surprise to me! Since I’ve only ever played around with very basic scrapbooking, I was so pleased to find out that this resource offers some really gorgeous flower embellishments. You’ll find pages and pages of awesome paper and fabric flowers to scroll through….and there’s something for everybody’s style!
Here are a couple of my favs from them:
Believe it or not, Amazon also has some amazing embellishments available. Search “Fabric Flowers” or “Large Buttons” and suddenly you’re on a treasure hunt of awesomeness!

I’m having so much fun with embellishments. When my kids were little (4 in 5 1/2 years) I didn’t have time to play. Just quick and simple. Now with seven great-grands and much more time, I’m doing fussy things, too.
Favorites are: Color, flowers, bows, fancy stitch.
Thanks so much for your musings, suggestions, and patterns.
I love embellishments of all types. Right now I am creating my own crocheted flowers to add to a ribbed knit hat. Super cute.
Ooo! Sounds adorable!
