How to Knit the Smock Stitch
The smock stitch is a beautiful, classy knit stitch which creates a gorgeous texture. I have a pair of mittens that I absolutely love featuring the stitch, and I used this stitch for my daughter’s first hat….it’s versatile, and oh-so-pretty!
I have a couple of upcoming patterns (both knit and crochet as I figured out a way to crochet this stitch too) featuring the Smock Stitch and, as always, I wanted to make sure to provide a resource for anyone who might not have tried it before.
Check out this step by step photo tutorial on how to knit the smock stitch!
Follow your pattern up until the point it calls for you to do the Smock Stitch. Chances are your pattern will feature a K2, P2 ribbing.
Insert your right needle between the 6th and 7th stitches on your left needle.
Wrap yarn as if to knit and draw a loop between the sts and onto your right needle.
Place loop onto left needle in front of all stitches.
K2tog (the loop you just placed and the first stitch).
K1, P2, K2 to finish the Smock Stitch
