Pursue Your Passion….Another Sappy Yarn Love Post

This morning I stumbled upon the most amazing video.  To me, it signified creativity, passion, and perseverance at their finest.

Being a creative person, it sometimes strikes me just how necessary maintaining an outlet for this energy is.  You probably know the feeling.  There’s some deep seated need to create….whether it’s a gorgeous knit or crochet project, music, or even just an amazing meal.  It’s important to keep the energy flowing.

Here’s the video that so inspired me this morning:

Watching someone else do what their passionate about always makes me a little sappy….it reminds me to dedicate time and energy each day to doing something I love.

I don’t know about you, but I didn’t always express my creativity and artistry through yarn.  As many crafty, passionate, and innovative people do, I tried out quite a few different arts before I found my niche.  Back in high school, I was obsessed with music.  I attended the Colorado All-State Choir twice, and I thought for sure my life would take me on a musical path.

I just checked YouTube for a video clip from my choir years, and found this short little clip…this was my choir in my senior year.  The video reminds me of all the reasons I loved choir and music so much.

After I got out of college and past my super musical stage, I felt like something was missing in my life.  So I set out to fill that void with some other artsy, fulfilling passion.  I settled on quilting.  At the time, I worked as a 911 dispatcher….and since I was new on the totem pole, I got saddled with the 9pm-7am shift for a year.  So all of my weekend nights that year were spent sewing away while my husband snoozed soundly in the next room.

After quilting became less of an option (due to a new baby and less space), I poured my innovative energy into yarn.  Which is where you’ll find me now.  Surrounded by mountains of yarn, happily stitching away with a big old grin on my face.

I’m 100% sure I would be a less happy, less healthy person without yarn in my life.  All of the crafty energy stored in my soul needs a way to come out, and that’s what yarn does for me – gives me something to be proud of, something to work towards, and always offers another challenge.

I guess that’s the reason the cup video hit me so hard this morning.  On the other side of the screen, I was looking at someone letting that energy out.  Someone who would rather spend their extra moments pursuing a passion than anything else.

I love to see that….it’s motivating, inspirational, and most of all heart warming.  Quite frankly – it gets me all mushy-gushy inside, and inspires me to write sappy blog posts like this one….which I suppose is as good a way to get out that sappy creative energy as any other way.

What paths of creativity have you traveled in your life?  I love connecting with you, and I’d love to hear your story.  Comment on this post and let me know what led you to your current creative station.
