Jennika Mittens – Free Knitting Pattern

I’m a big fan of quick and easy knits that still have some true beauty to them.  This free mitten knitting pattern was designed with a love of simple beauty paired with my always present desire to work through projects quickly.

Calling for Aran (4) weight yarn, these pretty knit mittens are quite quick to work up.  Add in the classy cable element, and they’re also an interesting and elegant knit.

  1. Thank you for the patterns. You have Such a loving heart.

  2. Sometimes it seems we are so busy trying to just function that we forget to take time to think of what we really need. Thank you for reminding us to take time for really connecting with our own selves and needs.

    • Yay! This one comment makes me feel like this whole series is worthwhile. I needed the encouragement today. Thank you!

  3. Become to ignore persons that are not important in my life (think they’re the best and know it all and are nothing but demon mean to persons in each and every way! This person seems to have a two type personality and is untruthful and doesn’t admit to thy nasty actions!)

    • Yes, learning to live in that centered place where we can let those things bounce off of us is terribly hard! I seem to find that place every once in a while for a day or two, and then I find myself struggling to get back to it for long lengths of time. But learning to access our deeper, wiser truth is of great value. Thanks for this reminder – I needed it today!

  4. I like this idea. Today I am wearing a knitted shawl and working at a coffee shop. I have been taking my scraps and making small coffee cozies to share my joy with others. Today I am putting love out into the world one stitch at a time.

  5. In my personal situation and opinion I’ve learned that around the house I don’t need to daily wear makeup unless I have an appt or make errands away from the house.I also don’t care what people think when they visit me at home and see me without makeup as that’s who I am and as I get older I feel that if it bothers you to see me like this or that my house is I call it an organized mess in some areas of the house and not spotless or well kept compared to other peoples houses then I just say to myself oh well just deal with and if they don’t like they don’t have to return. I feel that as long as I know my house is clean that’s all that matters because life happens no matter what so you just have to deal with it the best you can and move on as long as your ok with it and don’t dwell on what other people think or say that’s what counts. I’ve had to learn the hard way over my lifetime in order to come to this conclusion.

    • Great conclusion to come to though! Self compassion – nobody is perfect and nobody keeps a spotless house. I’m learning that now too 🙂

  6. I have suffered from chronic depression since I was a teenager. I am now 72. I try to be myself at all times. If you try to hide from others, you end up hiding from yourself. I learned a long time ago, that the only friends worth having are those who, when they ask “How are you?” Really want to know the answer, whether it is “fine” or “terrible.” You also have to be a friend to yourself. It is not only all right to care for yourself, it is necessary. Give yourself hugs if nobody else is around to give them. And make sure you really mean the hugs you give yourself or anyone else. I guess what I am saying is “be real,” and you and those around you will have received a gift. My life has been a life filled with depression, and there have been some very hard times. I wake up, see my depression sitting there like an old friend, I say hello, and then I get on with doing whatever I can that day. Sometimes it’s nothing more than washing my face, and sometimes it’s getting so busy with needlework, drawing, or writing, that I actually forget about that depression sitting beside me, at least for awhile. Hang in there, everyone with depression. Do what you can, when you can, and cherish every good thing that happens. And doing something creative can be a real release from the deep down abyss that threatens to swallow you. You may not be able to climb out of the darkness, but you can light a candle to keep you company while you knit some smiles.

    • This comment is so truthful and from the heart Wendy! It’s SO important to be good to ourselves. I’ll be going in that on the Day 6 (today!) post. Thanks for taking the time to join the conversation. Means a lot to me.

  7. I’m one of those retirees who suddenly realized that I was depressed. After a talk with my doctor it was clear that part of it is the isolation you feel after 38 years of always having people to talk with during the day to having no one. I just last week mentioned it to a few people that I do try to keep in touch with , only to find out they were feeling the same way. It is amazing how when you let that cat out of the bag how many people want to talk. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I for one will be better for it.

    • Love this! It’s so true…when you start to talk about it, others resonate and you can help support each other. Thanks for joining in the conversation. It means a lot to me.

  8. I would let other see me as I really feel on the inside! Drained, hurting, frustrated, and afraid! I told my sister a couple of years ago that I hide myself when they’re around. I put on a smiling face, talk, talk about nothing and everything BUT how I really feel. Boy! Was she upset with me! I have tried to expose the inner side. Only a little gets out but they are seeing how much I struggle and it hurts me for them to see it but I’m not as good at hiding it like I used to be. Admitting I needed help has been a little break in the clouds with the sun rays getting through.

    • I’m really glad you’re seeing some sun rays here and there now. I feel the same….they come and go but at least I’m remembering they exist now! Hugs to you <3

  9. Melody, thank you so much for opening yourself up this way and for your generosity with these beautiful patterns. I have suffered from depression (beginning with a diagnosis of a rare chronic disease, then permanent disability and being medically retired at 35) but medication and self-awareness keeps it mostly at bay. This week I’ve suffered some tremendous upheaval and it’s been knitting that has kept me relatively stable. Yesterday was “a day” and I missed your blog (all computer related things, in fact) so I loved coming on today and seeing these lovely mittens and think that these might just warm my heart as much as someone’s hands.

    • Ahhh! This comment truly warmed my heart. It’s wonderful to know that you’re following along and enjoying it daily. Glad you’re back today and that you found the blog heartwarming. Thanks for sharing.

  10. I’ve been fighting this since my husband died 5 years ago. Was told I didn’t give myself time to grieve. Anyway, I’ve had a dear male friend I could talk with who knew about the depression. A month ago, I was so down and out, but he wouldn’t answer messages. I don’t know about others, but being ignored makes me worse. I sent a horrible, disgusting text to him with no answer. I have apologized repeatedly, but not a word. I guess my explosion was too much for him. Now, back with just myself fighting, some days are just filled with crying and sleeping. Other days, I can actually get dressed for the store. It’s a tough disease, that’s for sure!! I really appreciate you bringing this to light. I’m 72, kids are 54,52 and 44 and don’tunderstand what I have to be sad about……..

    • Ah, sending you love and hugs Sharon. It’s amazing how our thinking changes when we’re feeling so down….I also tend to lash out at my support group when I get that down. The best you can do is see yourself with love – we all have our moments. I’m glad you’re sharing here, and hope you’ll continue to follow along!

  11. Some things you can let others see and others you can not. I have slowly learned there are few you can show everything to. I have been very busy and not taking enough time for myself this last week and part of my depression comes with my not always being careful with my autoimmune that is always present. It doesnt help if you are living where it triggers your autoimmune. Some day i will learn or better yet move out of state where the triggers are less. I have learned to not beat up myself over it, but others just dont see.
