Slouchy Cabled Hat Knit Pattern

Slouchy Cabled Hat Knit Pattern

Average Head Circumference Size Chart

Child 3-10 Years:

19-20.5″ (48.25-52cm)

Teen:

20.5-22″ (52-56cm)

Adult:

21.5-24″ (54.5-61cm)

 

Materials

  • Yarn: Approximately 120 yards of bulky (5) weight yarn for smaller sizes, and approximately 180 yards for larger sizes (I used Berroco Blackstone Tweed Chunky).
  • Knitting Needles: Size 6.0mm (US 10) Double Pointed Needles (or use the magic loop method) and OPTIONAL a 16-18 inch cable needle
  • Yarn or Tapestry Needle

Gauge

8 sts and 12 rows = 2 inches (5 centimeters) in stockinette stitch

***It is important to check your gauge!***

Abbreviations

  • M1 (Make 1):  On a purl row: Insert left needle, back to front, under the strand between st on left needle and st on right needle making a new loop on left needle. Purl this loop through the front.
  • C6F: Cable 6 Front:  Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle, and hold in front of work, K3, then K3 from the cable needle
  • P2tog: Purl the next two sts together
  • K2tog: Knit the next two sts together
  • **: Repeat the section in between the two stars as specified


Child 3-10 Year Pattern

CO 54 sts loosely onto Double Pointed Needles (or cable needle if you prefer)

Join in the round and place stitch marker

Round 1: *K3, P3* Repeat around

Repeat round 1 until your piece measures approx. 3” (7.5cm)

Round 2: *K6, P3* Repeat around

Round 3: *K6, P1, M1, P2* Repeat around (60 total sts)

Rounds 4&5: *K6, P4* Repeat around

Round 6: *K6, P2, M1, P2* Repeat around (66 total sts)

Round 7: *K6, P5* Repeat around

Round 8: *C6F, P5* Repeat around

Do not bind off.  Cut approx. 7 inch tail.  Using yarn needle, remove all sts from DPNs or magic loop, as if to purl.   Pull tail through to cinch the top of hat.  Using yarn needle, pull tail through to the inside of the hat.  Tie a knot and weave in ends.
