January’s Mystery is Complete!

Cabled Bear Hooded Cowl Crochet Pattern

January’s Mini Mystery Create-A-Long Project – Cabled Bear Hooded Cowl Crochet Pattern!

I’m happy to report that January’s free Mini Mystery Create-A-Long was a huge success!  We had over 3900 people sign up, and everyone created the most gorgeous projects.  Once again, I was also super impressed with how friendly, kind, helpful, and drama free everyone in both the Facebook group and the Ravelry group was.  Thank you!

I like to do a little summary post from each of these events for those of you who may have missed out on participating….these Mystery Create-A-Longs are such a great way to connect with like-minded knitters and crocheters, while everyone works together to create something awesome.

The project we created this time around was an adorable Cabled Bear Hooded Cowl!  It was so fun seeing everyone guessing and working together each segment.  I also loved comparing all of the different color choices, and techniques everyone used for different parts of the pattern!

I have to say….a few people really went above and beyond and let their creativity show!  I’ve seen some incredible ponchos, car seat covers, and even a purse created using the base for this pattern.  Yes!  I love it when people use the patterns I create as a start and then make them even better.

Here’s what a few people had to say about this event:

~”This project was fun for me and educational. I had never done cables before and feel much more confident about them now.”   ~ Cuddlesmagee on Ravelry

~”I really enjoyed this Mystery Create Along!!! It stretched my abilities, but Melody and her assistants as well as the group participating, were so supportive!…. I never would have had the courage to try cables if it had not been for this MCAL!!! I loved them, and once I learned how, it was not hard!!! The video tutorials were great! I am looking forward to making more of Melody’s patterns and I can’t wait to participate in another challenge!” ~ Hedwighull on Ravelry

~”This Mini Mystery was the most informative of all for me. I have never done Cables before and to be honest with you I almost didnt participate but I have not missed one of Melody’s Mystery create along yet and I felt like I needed to tackle my fears of cables. I mean I was TERRIFIED of cables. What I was most afraid of is not being able to master them but with help from melody and her videos I limped along. Melody has a true gift of being able to explain stuff in text and I get it! That truly is a miracle because I usually have trouble with comprehension but she knows just what to write so you can understand. I highly recommend to everyone If you want to try something new join one of her events because she breaks everything down in small bits so you can take your time and she is always available to her groups for help. She has been a big inspiration to me and I have grown so much in the crochet world because of her and a few others that she works closely with. Thanks again Melody for another Great mystery.” ~ Susannetaylor on Ravelry

~”The first Mystery make along I’ve taken part in, and enjoyed every bit of it!
Clues are well spaced giving plenty of time to finish sections and the pattern was incredibly well written.
Didn’t have to frog any part of it, and will make it again.” ~ Fionalit on Ravelry

  1. Thanks Melody for using my comment on this post, I truly meant every word!!!!

  2. Haha! My daughter Hannah thinks she is famous now. Lol. She is in the first pic of the kids it version.

  3. Adorable! I love that knit version.

  4. Melody, this was a fun CAL and was so happy to be a part of it. The cowl hoods turned out just darling, and any child would be happy to wear them. Easy pattern. I have found most of your patterns are quite easy and the instructions are very good and easy to follow!

  5. Melody this was so much fun & brought my granddaughter & I closer!! To see her at 6 years old finish this project & the warm kind words all the ladies gave her was a big boost of her confidence. Your videos were extremely helpful to us both!! Can’t wait for the next MCAL/MKAL!!

  6. I never knew it was possible to cable in crochet. I had a ball making my pumpkin orange cabled hooded cowl and it will be well received by whomever receives it. Your videos were the best for explaining everything we needed to do.
