If ever anything can make you smile, a crochet snowman will certainly do the trick!  Bring a little holiday cheer to your table this year, with this adorable snowman pot holder crochet pattern.

It’s week number 2 of our little Holiday craft-a-long, and time for another adorable free pattern!

Once again, this pattern is cute, quick, and really fun to work up.  I know your crafting time is very precious this time of year!

Snowman Pot Holder Crochet Pattern

Materials:

  • Yarn: Approximately 46 yards of worsted (4) yarn (approx. 38 yards of white, and approx. 5 yards of black and approx. 3 yards of red)
  • Crochet Hook: Size 5.5 mm (I/9)
  • Yarn or Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:

  • SC: Single Crochet
  • CH: Chain
  • SC2tog: Single Crochet the next 2 sts together
  • **: Repeat the section in between the two stars as specified

Crochet Snowman Pot Holder Pattern

Snowman Pattern:

(Use as Trivet or Make 2 and seam together for Pot Holder)

Loosely Chain 5 using White Yarn

Row 1: Single crochet into second chain from hook and each chain across, CH1, Turn Work (4 total sts not including turning chain)

Row 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 2 sts, 2 SC in last stitch, CH1, Turn Work (6 total sts)

Row 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 4 sts, 2 SC in last stitch, CH1, Turn Work (8 total sts)

Row 4: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 6 sts, 2 SC in last stitch, CH1, Turn Work (10 total sts)

Rows 5-7: Single Crochet in each stitch across, CH1, Turn Work (10 total sts)

Row 8: SC2tog, SC each of the next 6 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (8 total sts)

Row 9: SC2tog, SC each of the next 4 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (6 total sts)

Drop White Yarn and Pick up Red Yarn

Row 10: Single Crochet in each stitch across, CH5, Turn Work (10 total sts not including turning chain)

Row 11: Single Crochet in each stitch across, CH1, Turn Work (10 total sts)

Drop Red Yarn and Pick up White Yarn

Row 12: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 4 sts, 2 SC in next stitch, CH1, Turn Work (8 total sts – this will leave a bit of the red section hanging out by itself)

Row 13: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 6 sts, 2 SC in next stitch, CH1, Turn Work (10 total sts)

Row 14: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 8 sts, 2 SC in next stitch, CH1, Turn Work (12 total sts)

Row 15: 2 SC in first stitch, SC each of the next 10 sts, 2 SC in next stitch, CH1, Turn Work (14 total sts)

Rows 16-18: Single Crochet in each stitch across, CH1, Turn Work (14 total sts)

Row 19: SC2tog, SC each of the next 10 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (12 total sts)

Row 20: SC2tog, SC each of the next 8 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (10 total sts)

Row 21: SC2tog, SC each of the next 6 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (8 total sts)

Row 22: 2 SC in each of next 2 sts, SC in each of next 4 sts, 2 SC in each of next 2 sts, CH1, Turn Work (12 total sts)

Row 23: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in each of next 10 sts, 2 SC in last stitch, CH1, Turn Work (14 total sts)

Row 24: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in each of next 12 sts, 2 SC in last stitch, CH1, Turn Work (16 total sts)

Row 25: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in each of next 14 sts, 2 SC in last stitch, CH1, Turn Work (18 total sts)

Rows 26-29: Single Crochet in each stitch across, CH1, Turn Work (18 total sts)

Row 30: SC2tog, SC each of the next 14 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (16 total sts)

Row 31: SC2tog, SC each of the next 12 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (14 total sts)

Row 32: SC2tog, SC each of the next 10 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (12 total sts)

Row 33: SC2tog, SC each of the next 8 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (10 total sts)

Row 34: SC2tog, SC each of the next 6 sts, SC2tog, CH1, Turn Work (8 total sts)

Fasten off.  Weave in all ends.

To make your edges more tidy, add a Single Crochet border around the outside of all white sections.

Fasten off.  Weave in all ends.

Return to starting edge.  Pick up black yarn to add hat.

Row 1: CH2, slip stitch in each of the 4 starting sts, CH3, Turn Work (8 total sts not including turning chain)

Row 2: Single Crochet in each stitch across, CH1, Turn Work (8 total sts)

Row 3: Slip stitch into each of first 2 sts, SC in each of the next 4 sts, CH1, Turn Work (4 total sts not including beginning slip sts)

Row 4: Single Crochet in each stitch across (4 total sts)

Fasten off.  Weave in all ends.

 Add a fringe to the edge of the scarf by knotting on 3 pieces of yarn folded in half.  Cut to desired length.

Use a yarn/tapestry needle to embroider on a face and buttons.

    I just discovered your Christmas potholder patterns. Do you make them from a cotton yarn or doesn’t it matter?

    • I used mine more as hot pads for things I knew wouldn’t melt them….if you’re planning to use them with really hot dishes, then you should definitely use cotton 🙂
